Best Dressed...Oscars 2010

And so, another Academy Awards has come and gone. There were laughs (Steve and Alec were hilarious), there were tears (Sandra Bullock's acceptance speech, anyone?), there were shocks (Precious won Best Adapted Screenplay over Up in the Air - I don't think anyone saw that coming) and history was made (Kathryn Bigelow, need I say more?). But most of all there was fashion...
The Winners
These lovely ladies managed to please the Academy and the style police.
While I didn't absolutely love Sandra Bullock's look (the dress is divine, but I'm not a huge fan of the lips and hair, just needed a little extra something, maybe), I absolutely love Sandra Bullock, herself, so she makes the list.
Kathryn Bigelow made history last night, and she did it looking very classy. Can you believe she's 58?
I loved that Mo'Nique chose this dress, it was so flattering to her figure. Accessories and hair were kept simple, but Mo'Nique made up for it with her confidence.
The Nominees
You know what the best thing about Gabourey Sidibe's look was? Her sass, perfectly evidenced by this gem of a quote "If fashion was porn, this dress is the money shot." I hear that.
A lot of people are on the fence about Maggie Gyllenhaal's dress, but I loved it, personally. I thought she looked so incredibly beautiful and relaxed, with minimal accessories and an effortless up-do. Pure class.
Carey Mulligan is fast becoming some sort of style icon in-the-making. I would have preferred if she'd swapped the black, chunky shoes for something less imposing, but that's pretty much the only fault of this fashion-forward look.
Oh, Anna Kendrick. So classy, so effortless, so...Grecian. Perfect.

Keeps Getting Better With Age
Helen Mirren is like fine wine - she just gets better with age (I'll have to take the advice of experts on the wine comparison, I can't stand the stuff). She looked jaw-dropping-ly beautiful, especially for her 64 years of age.

Most Fun
Again, a lot are on the fence about Sarah Jessica Parker's risk-taking choice, but I thought she looked great. Very vibrant, confident, happy. She wears this dress well.
Best Newcomer
Kristen Stewart may wear Converse and a Walking Air Boot to formal events in Twilight, but she certainly scrubbed up well for the Oscars. She looked absolutely gorgeous in this feminine, figure-hugging gown.

And now onto you, readers. Regale me with tales of your favourite red-carpet looks or even moments from the ceremony, if you're so inclined (I must admit, I was tearing up when Oprah was praising Gabourey before the Best Actress award was given - that was a beautiful moment).

Meh I know which side of the fence I'm on - I think Maggie looked absolutely stunning. She was by far my favourite of the night...

My favorite part of the Oscars was NPH's opening number, and aside from your mentions, I loved Sandy Powell's gown.

thanks for your wonderful comment =)
i definitely recommend experimenting with red lipstick! there are so many different shades and only a few will suit your skintone so it's definitely tricky to find THE red on your first try.

i also totally agree with your comment regarding helen mirren. she looks amazing!

I love Maggie Gyllenhaal's gown but I don't like SJP's one that much. I expect too much from her, I guess, since she has always dressed so perfectly!

I can almost get a bit angry with SJP cause she makes everything look so good. She's pretty no matter what.

Helen Mirren looked lovely. I hope I can look that great at 64.

I was disappointed with Meryl Streep's outfit though - not very flattering in a white, slouchy gown.

Loved Maggie. Stunning.

And re: wine - try something sweeter like a dessert wine if you get the chance. It might change your perspective!

58? 64?? They look fabulous!

I think Cameron Diaz looked great,
the dress, the hair, the red lips and nails: perfection!

Thanks for your sweet comment, I'm a big fan of nautical too, I'm only not really into horizontal stripes but I gave it a try today.. what do you think?

I'll definitely try the feta, do you put it on the pizza before or after baking it? I actually like cold cheese more than melted cheese!

Sarah is my all time favourite, I fell in love with her style when I got hooked into SATC series... Kristen looks great as well at least she didn't do anything weird to her hair compare to what she did the last time (tomboy-ish look in a gown)

Btw, I'm a Canon girl eversince, for now I'm using Canon EOS 450D camera...

See you around heaps!

I totally agree with your assessment! Kristen Stewart would look eons better if her face didn't always look so sour hahaha. I'm not a huge fan of SJP's dress as it looks really ill fitting and sack-like from certain angles.
