The Curve

Jayne Mansfield
Cannes Film Festival, 1964

Jayne was certainly no stranger to drawing attention to herself. But honestly, who wouldn't, with looks like that? Jayne Mansfield may not be as well-known as her "rivals" (Mansfield is sometimes described as being a "poor man's Marilyn Monroe"), but she's certainly one of my all-time favourite icons - always more than happy to celebrate her enviable figure.
"I like being a pin-up girl. There's nothing wrong with it."
Jayne Mansfield. No Jayne, there certainly isn't.

I received an award from the lovely LyddieGal over at Chic on the Cheap a couple of weeks ago, and am finally getting to post about it.

The rules...
share 10 things about yourself.

Here goes...
1. I am 5'10" (maybe taller) and have been tall for my age my entire life. This means I often get the "oh you're tall - can you please reach up and get that for me?" treatment. I don't mind helping, but it gets a bit old after a while.
2. I have incredibly inconsistent tastes (and thoughts and feelings). One day I like one thing, then the next day, sometimes even later the same day, I swing completely the opposite way and can't understand liking the first thing in the first place.
3. Over-confident people intimidate the hell out of me.
4. When I was younger, I got bitten on the nose by a chicken. I've been hostile towards them ever since.
5. I am a pescetarian.
6. I have developed a skill for reading body language over the years. I have a particular talent for guessing who people secretly harbour feelings for (which has been uncannily accurate in recent years).
7. I find reading books, even magazines sometimes, incredibly stressful. Leftover guilt from my final year of high school - if it wasn't study related, I couldn't enjoy it. As a result, I don't read much which is a shame because there are so many books I would love to read.
8. I have a real problem with people who are pretentious or judgemental when it comes to music taste. I've been surrounded by people like this for too long, and now I have no tolerance for their lack of tolerance (haha).
9. I'm incredibly picky when it comes to bags and shoes (which is probably why I am still yet to find a replacement for my gigantic tote that I used for school). You will never find me to be one of those women with endless rows of bags and shoes in her closet, as I doubt I could ever find that many that I like.
10. I like having an uncommon name. I have been told that it makes me sound like a variety of things, from a fairytale character to a "space-travelling freedom fighter".

And so I've decided that instead of passing this award on traditionally, I would love it if anyone who is reading this considers them-self tagged. I'm not copping out, but I just think this is a great way to get to know a blogger, so anyone who wants to do this consider yourself officially a recipient of the award.

Jayne is beautiful! At first glance I though that little dog was part of her chest though!

I am with you on #3, never having been a particularly assertive person myself.

I envy your height, while I'm sure you have all the same (but opposite) shopping issues I have, I still wish I were taller!

She is so fabulous. And I also envy your height -- I'm so jealous of tall people!

That is such a good idea! I found some common things in your list :) And you do have a wonderful name!

I just read this "Sometimes 16 ain't so sweet..." ~MTV on your other blog and it reminded me how shocked I was when I first saw the show. Those little girls are so bitchy with ruined/split personalities, how's that possible at the age of 16?!

Now I have to continue studying :)

Those are interesting things about Jayne. & about your self too. Funny, I had a dream about the twitter bird came to life and wouldn't get out of my room last night. Quite annoying. I don't even use twitter.

Hope your week is getting off to a good start.

Congratulations on your award! These are interesting photos. She clearly was comfortable in front of the camera, but again, as you said, she had ever reason to be. Work while you have it I guess! Have a wonderful week. =)

Congratulations on the award, darling - so well-deserved. I must admit, I'm quite similar to you in regards to # 6. The only bizarre thing, however, is that I'm incapable of realizing when boys like me. It's as if the talent only works for strangers or people who aren't me!! :)

Love love your top ten! I meant to do it too long time ago as I was tagged by someone but never got the chance to do so... I must remind myself to do the list!

I'm a fickle minded too, I want something today then it will change the next day... oh I don't talk to people who are conceited, they're such a fool and nobody likes them except their wives/ husbands haha!

Think we're both lucky to have unique names, "in a way" we stand above all and live up to our names!

p.s.
You can join my contest if you like hun just for fun, it's open for everyone. Hope you had a good weekend xxxx
