Sex sells, after all...

Sexy stuff.
But what do you all think? Pleasantly sexy or too far?
What are your thoughts on the increasing influence of sex in the fashion industry? Obviously it's always been a major factor to commercial success, but lately it seems to have risen to a whole new level, especially with regard to nudity. I have no problem with nudity whatsoever, in fact sometimes it can be what turns something ordinary into something extraordinary - but sometimes it seems as if nipples are being thrown in here and there simply for the hell of it. It's the gratuitous nudity that I guess I have an issue with (and that goes for film and television, also). It's just downright...tacky.

Haha, nipples for the sake of nipples.

Oh I love those images. SOOO sexy in such a good way.

I'm not bothered by nudity, just as long as it is in a tasteful, artistically minded way.

If its got the right atomsphere..I think its cool. Of course, they just look a bit hot and sweaty in this and you just know the bad guy might show up with a chainsaw any moment to do them in. And what were they selling exactly?

I guess what makes it strange..is the fact this is so far from the runway. Like you could have some sexy people right here in a one horse town perhaps...which is pretty clever. And it does tell enough of a story for the imagination.

Haha, I am sure you know what I would type XD

These images are definitely sexy, though I must admit that I have no idea what's being sold... Haha.

I think the lines have somewhat been blurred along the way. I read the piece Tavi wrote on her blog about the whole Terry Richardson fiasco, and it really opened up my eyes to the world we're living in nowadays. Where do we draw the line anymore?

beautiful photography, but like everyone ahead of me i don't exactly know what they're trying to sell!
haha the bit about the nipples made me laugh. but it's true.
and that IS so freaky that you were just singing rocket when i did my post! talk about coincidences...

tacky indeed, i'm glad i'm not alone! nudity can actually be very classy if done the right way, if not, it's incredibly unpleasant!

Pleasantly sexy. I agree with you, though, I don't get the point of gratuitous nudity.

woah, very steamy pics indeed. I don't really mind nudity, but not too keen on the whole 'nudity for the sake of it' kinda thing.

Personally, I think these pictures go too far. There's something almost...I don't know, frightening about them. Too gritty, I suppose. I don't like it. :/

honestly i think in fashion it's too much! they could cut that off. but in movies, it's okay :D you know in editorials i don't want to see a woman posing completely naked not hiding anything. it's the clothes that should hide and it's the clothes i want to look at.

Those are pretty hot. I think that nudity can be done in a good way, but some are taken out of hand, like that Teri Richardson or w/e his name is guy.

hahahaha..well, sex sells..definitely. Which makes me think I found out from a friend who's guy friend came to see her..he's blind in one eye..he was looking at porn on her mother's computer in the livingroom. I think her mother doesn't want him to visit her much. I hope she's having seconds thought about getting an apartment with him.

I love it! And about Diane Kruger. I'm not into her as a actress, I haven't even seen that many movies where she's been in. But I love the way she dresses and I think she is one of the most beautiful woman in Hollywood right now. Also the fact that she used to model (good stuff) is a plus on my books and the fact that she doesn't use any stylist -ever- which is soooo rare these days.

Mmmmhh, I've also read the Tavi post and thought this is all too difficult to comment on, but then I still needed to have my (very long) say. Therfore I try to be short now - I'm all for sexual freedom and a healthy, unrestricted attitude towards sex; but fashion, pop music et al are an industry and as you've said 'Sex sells' and in a way it seems to be getting more and more crude. But then, maybe as a society we are getting more and more crude...

Actually I don't have a problem with these images...but I absolutely agree with, what you say above...

I think there is too much sex in practically everything...and it's not beautiful or exciting...it's tacky!

Happy weekend, cheers: Evi

Hi Romany, I agree with you 100% on this. It seems that some forms of nudity can be artistic, but I do think that your statement is so true, "it's the gratuitous nudity that I guess I have an issue with (and that goes for film and television, also). It's just downright...tacky." Brava for saying this, I think very few would approach the issue like you and I am in complete agreement with you.

I don't hate it for artistic purposes, but it gets to a point where one has to wonder where the Hell the clothes are?

I still don't know about the nudity that happens a lot these days. Well, I know it's an art too. Still confused. Haha. But yes, I love those pics! :D

Denisa L said...

I'm not too bothered about it, I'm guessing, this editorial was all about the jewellery.

It really depends on the levels of nudity, the themes and what they're trying to illustrate. If it's really inappropriate, that's when it's not really right!
